Residency restrictions (state sponsored segregation}, travel notifications, gps devises, social media notifications, employer notifications, drivers license tagging, registering addresses of friends and relatives and regular vacation sites, these are forms of branding. The object is to show as many people as possible that the registrant has done something terrible, and that usually stays with the person forever. After being considered cruel and unusual punishment nearly two centuries ago, it is undergoing a rebirth, although not as crude as a hot iron, its just as painful in the long run, the social stigmatization of the new high tech versions are just as cruel and unusual. Although it is especially cruel when done to children, it is also cruel when done to adults. It affects the adult registrant as well as the children, spouses, friends and employers having relationships with the registrant, creating 750,000 plus Hester Pryns in this country as a subset of humanity. Just as had happened in the time at the end of the old form of branding as punishment, we need reformers to step forward and oppose the modern day form of this punishment.
